Pearson National Teaching Awards open to Scotland’s schools

This year, Scottish schools are eligible to enter the 2021 Pearson National Teaching Awards. Education Scotland is delighted to be working in partnership with The Teaching Awards Trust to open the awards up to Scotland and provide this fantastic opportunity to showcase the great work that is happening across the UK.

Run by the Teaching Awards Trust and supported by Pearson and the BBC, the awards are a celebration of transformational teaching and the great work that is done by teachers and leaders in education across the country.

The awards shine a light on schools and teachers for their outstanding achievements and for making a profound difference to the lives of young people across the country. Entering your school will help to raise the profile of the teaching profession, highlight the positive impact teachers and school leaders have in Scotland and show teachers just how much they are valued.

Why not celebrate our most dedicated and forward-thinking education professionals by entering your school today? This year the judging will be carried out by video and telephone call and only if COVID-19 restrictions permit, will there be school visits. In light of this, shortlisted nominees will be able to share video footage and photographs during the virtual visit. To find out more read What makes a good entry.

The awards website details a wide variety of categories that recognise the dedication and commitment of establishments, practitioners and education supporters. In addition, parents, carers and learners will also be able to nominate teachers in the soon-to-be-launched Lockdown Hero category.

HMI Chief Inspector and Chief Executive of Education Scotland, Gayle Gorman said: "We want to celebrate the hard work and success taking place in Scottish education. The Pearson National Teaching Awards can give us an opportunity to celebrate the amazing work that is happening throughout the year in Scottish schools, but especially in this past year. More than ever, our education professionals have been inspirational in their efforts to achieve the very best in education and we should showcase the amazing talent we have in Scotland.

"So many people are involved in supporting children and young people to be successful and to achieve their very best in education. We want to make sure no success story goes unheard, so I would encourage schools and establishments to nominate today."

Chair of the Teaching Awards Trust, Steve Munby said: "We are delighted to welcome Scottish schools to enter the Pearson National Teaching Awards. It is of great importance to us that our work to celebrate and recognise excellence in education encompasses all teachers and staff working in schools across the whole United Kingdom, We look forward to working in partnership with Education Scotland to encourage and welcome entries from Scottish schools."
