Education Scotland will be resuming the routine programme of early learning and childcare and school inspections from August 2022. From visits to over 380 schools and education settings during the current academic year, HM Inspectors are aware of the ongoing challenges faced by local authority staff, education staff, learners and communities resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

HM Inspectors will listen and learn about current priorities and ongoing challenges. They will carry out inspection activities with empathy and be responsive to the challenges different settings face.

HM Inspectors will continue to use the quality improvement frameworks How Good Is Our School? (4th Edition) and How Good Is Our Early Learning and Childcare? As the focus for inspections. This advice note outlines how HM Inspectors will reflect the current context for each quality indicator.
