Ann a bhith a’ dèanamh seo, leasaichidh iad tuigse do dhòighean a chleachdar gus buaidh a thoirt air luchd-amhairc, agus mar as urrainn dhaibh an uair sin iad sin a chleachdadh nuair a bhios iad a’ lìbhrigeadh òraid iad fhèin.

Gnìomh ionnsachaidh

Bruidhinn ris a’ chloinn mu cho cudromach ’s a tha na tha iad a’ dèanamh ann a bhith ag ionnsachadh Gàidhlig. Thoir iomradh air àite na Gàidhlig mar chànan oifigeil ann an Alba, a thuilleadh air mar phàirt de chultar, dualchas agus eaconamaidh na h-Alba.

Meòraich còmhla ris a’ chloinn air buannachdan dà-chànanais agus a bhith ag ionnsachadh tro bhogadh.

Smaoinich air luachan agus amasan na sgoile agus bruidhinn mu dheidhinn mar a tha iad sin a’ co-cheangal ri clann ann am Foghlam tro Mheadhan na Gàidhlig.

Iarr air a’ chloinn na dreuchdan sa bheil Gàidhlig riatanach a rannsachadh. Bu chòir dhaibh coimhead ri cothroman ionadail, a thuilleadh orrasan nas fhaide air falbh.

Me and My Immersion: A song, a dance, a drama

  • Using what I know about the features of different types of texts, I can find, select and sort information from a variety of sources and use this for different purposes. (LIT 2-14a)
  • I can make notes, organise them under suitable headings and use them to understand information, develop my thinking, explore problems and create new texts, using my own words as appropriate. (LIT 2-15a)

Purpose of the activity

Young people will discuss the benefits of learning Gaelic and bilingualism. They will evaluate the best features of media, and produce a promotional text to promote learning of Gaelic with young people. In doing this, they will develop an understanding of techniques used to influence viewers, and how they can then employ these when they deliver a talk themselves.

Young people should make notes during discussions and in viewing texts so that they have information to recreate media.

You may wish to provide young people with a list of resources, or you may prefer that they identify resources independently.

They will use their observations of others delivering messages to recreate their own presentation.

Learning activity

Talk to children about the important contribution they make in learning Gaelic. Mention the role of Gaelic as an official language of Scotland, as well as part of the culture, heritage and economy of Scotland. 

Reflect with children on the benefits of bilingualism and learning through immersion.

Think of the school values and aims, and talk about how these relate to children in Gaelic Medium Education.

Ask children to research the careers for which Gaelic is required. They should look at local opportunities, as well as those further afield.

Ask children to look at the Young Scot website and the information that it has on Gaelic. Some suggestions for discussion are

  • Seven Benefits of Being Bilingual
  • Gaelic Facts
  • Gaelic Opportunities.

As children do this, they should take notes of key facts and figures about Gaelic, which they will use when recreating text to promote learning of Gaelic and Gaelic Medium Education in their school/area/nationally.

Discuss with children how well the different texts get a positive message across about Gaelic.

Children should produce a text/media of their choice, which promotes Gaelic.

Extension activity

Young people should be encouraged to use their review of media to suggest how the promotion of Gaelic within their school maybe enhanced.
