Clann a bhrosnachadh gu bhith a’ gabhail Gàidhlig a-steach do an gnàth-chùrsaichean làitheil taobh a-muigh na sgoile agus an còmhradh seo a chleachdadh mar bhunait airson aithris.
Cuidichidh an gnìomh ionnsachaidh seo clann gu an sgilean èisteachd is labhairt ann an Gàidhlig a leasachadh barrachd. Gheibh iad in-shealladh air an adhbhar gu bheil e cudromach Gàidhlig a chleachdadh taobh a-muigh na sgoile.

Me and my fluency, reporting in Gaelic!
Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) experiences and outcomes: Second level
- I regularly select subject, purpose, format and resources to create texts of my choice. (LIT 2-01a)
- I can recognise different how the features of spoken language can help in communication, and I can use what I learn. I can recognise different features of my own and others’ spoken language. (GAI 2-03a)
- As I listen or watch, I can identify and discuss the purpose, main ideas and supporting detail contained within the text, and use this information for different purposes. (LIT 2-04a)
- As I listen or watch, I can make notes, organise these under suitable headings and use these to understand ideas and information and create new texts, using my own words as appropriate. (LIT 2-05a)
Purpose of the activity
To encourage children to include Gaelic activity in their daily routines out with school and to use this conversation as a basis for a report.
This learning activity will help children develop further their listening and talking skills in Gaelic. They will gain an insight into why it is important to use Gaelic out with school.
They will use their observations of others delivering messages to recreate their own report.
Learning activity
Talk to children about the campaign #Cleachdi. Ask them to research this campaign. A useful starting point may be: https://www.gaidhlig.scot/bord-na-gaidhlig-proud-to-unveil-new-gaelic-identifier-%c2%ac-cleachdi-at-the-mod-glasgow-2019/
Talk to children about the importance of using Gaelic as much as they can, including out of school. Ask them to research the importance of this and to explain their findings to their peers.
Ask children to find out where and how they can use Gaelic out with the classroom and school. You may get more ideas for using Gaelic out with school here.
Talk to children about their recent use of Gaelic outwith school. This may be a programme on BBC Alba, or an activity led by a Gaelic group in which they took part.
This should include:
- Taking a note of new words, find out their meaning and think of a way of learning these new words.
- Sharing information and giving their views.
- Reviewing people’s skills in talking and how they are getting detail across.
- Watching or listening carefully for speakers’ use of emphasis and expression.
- Considering how they make use of gestures or facial expression.
- Considering the use of visual aids such as presentation slides, charts, graphs, maps and photographs.
Children should produce a report of a programme on BBC Alba of interest to them, or an activity led by a Gaelic group in which they took part. This should give information on what the programme or activity was about. They should think of different people’s styles when talking to see if that influences their talk.
Extension activity
Children should be encouraged to report on what they read, including their preference for different authors.

Possible approach to assessing learning
Children should reflect on what they did well and what they could improve. This feedback could be used to support you as teachers to assess children’s skills and identify next steps in learning.
