Summer challenge – park guide

What is this?

This year, the school summer holiday may be a bit different for all of us. You may not be doing the things that you usually plan to do.

If you are looking for a fun activity that you can do as a family during the summer months, you may wish to try this.

Find a map of your local area.  Mark off all the local parks. You could talk to your child about what key features they look for in a good park.

They could use this to devise a rating scale. For example, a five-star park has……., a four-star park has …..

Visit each of the parks and use the rating scale to evaluate them. They may like to take photographs of each park. Which park is your child’s favourite?

They could use their rating scale to create a guide about local parks for other children to use.

(This activity could be adapted to reflect your local area. For example, you could swap beaches for parks.)
