Adhbhar a’ ghnìomha

Tha clann a’ leasachadh tuigse mu dè a tha e a’ ciallachadh a bhith fallain agus gnìomhach nam beatha làitheil. Bidh iad a’ sgrùdadh seo tro mheadhan na Gàidhlig a’ cleachdadh nan slatan-tomhais sunnd agus oide-eòlas bogaidh. Faodar an gnìomh seo atharrachadh airson a chleachdadh aig an taigh, ma tha clann ag ionnsachadh aig astar.

Gnìomh ionnsachaidh

Bruidhinn ris a’ chloinn mu mar a tha iad a’ faireachdainn, agus an t-eòlas a tha aca air a bhith fallain agus gnìomhach. Stèidhichte air seo, suidhich àitean-cluiche, a-staigh agus a-muigh co-cheangailte ri bhith a’ cumail suas deagh shlàinte agus a bhith gnìomhach.

Building resilience, being active

Curriculum for Excellence (CfE) experiences and outcomes: Early level

  • I know that being active is a healthy way to be. (HWB 0-27a)
  • As I listen and take part in conversations, I discover use new words and phrases. I use these to help me talk to, play and work with others. (GAI 0-02a)

Purpose of the activity

Children are developing an understanding of what it means to be healthy and active in their daily lives. They explore this through the medium of Gaelic using the wellbeing indicators and immersion pedagogy. This activity can be adapted for use at home, if children are learning remotely.

Learning activity

Discuss with children how they feel, and their knowledge of being healthy and active. From this set up spaces to play, both indoors and outdoors related to maintaining good health and being active.

Select stories, songs and rhymes for using with children that builds on their interest and knowledge, whilst developing their fluency.

Explore with children the different ways they achieve good health and keeping active, for example, energetic play, keeping fit and participating in daily exercise.

Ask the children to think about the daily things they do to stay active, for example, walk to the early learning and childcare setting or school.

Discuss with children healthy eating and drinking, including routines for snack and lunch.

Use the current pandemic to highlight to children the importance of following advice, for example good hand washing hygiene.

Ask children to design a poster showing the various ways they stay active. As children do this, provide commentaries and initiate dialogue to encourage creativity and language acquisition.

Invite the children to keep a diary of their daily activity over one week. Children may need to ask an adult for support to complete this activity. Discuss with children their completed diary in the playroom or classroom or at home with an adult.

National Benchmarks

  • Demonstrates different ways of being active, for example, energetic play.
  • Listens to, demonstrates an understanding of and repeats new words and phrases from the use of Gaelic in a total immersion setting across a variety of contexts. The learner is becoming confident in their use of Gaelic in social situations and routines, such as when having snack.
  • Responds appropriately to questions, instructions and directions given in Gaelic relating to familiar situations in the playroom and classroom.
  • Uses songs, poems, rhymes and role-plays to show how they are developing a new language.

Possible approach to assessing learning

As practitioners, you know your learners well and can alter the expectations of outcomes for individuals in line with the National Benchmarks. You can look at ways to review or discuss children’s work and provide feedback occasionally to help move learning forward.

Some children may want to present their work to the class, others may prefer to share this only with yourself. They may wish to add/upload photos or a record of their work to their learning journal, possibly online. This will give you the opportunity to provide feedback and next steps.
