What is this?

Raising awareness and understanding of the challenges and barriers to learning faced by children and young people living in poverty is a key aim of the Scottish Attainment Challenge. The following links to recent resources may be useful to support awareness of the impact of poverty, which is especially relevant in the current context.

The potential economic impact of COVID-19 is yet to be fully understood. However, it is likely that many more families who had been ‘just getting by’ before March 2020 may now be experiencing poverty.

This is poverty - This powerful short film made in May 2020 by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation highlights how hard it is to live in poverty: “Poverty is frustrating, it seems as if you are fighting against a tide and the tide is always running against you”.

Cost of the School Day - The Cost of the School Day project has created a new package CoSD resources 2020 which includes an awareness raising presentation and film.

From poverty to flourishing: bringing psychology into action - The British Psychological Society has recently produced a Scottish briefing paper which discusses effective approaches to develop policy that will tackle poverty.
