Up to £1.3 million of new funding has been made available to help deliver inspirational teaching in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects across Scotland.
The leadership and collegiate professional learning fund is led by Education Scotland and supported by Scottish Government, with the aim of boosting confidence and skills in delivering inspirational STEM teaching.
Education Scotland Chief Executive Gayle Gorman said: 'We carried out a survey of education practitioners delivering STEM subjects and findings revealed that a lack of funding is often a barrier to accessing STEM professional learning.
'This new fund has been designed to meet the needs of teachers and practitioners, and is dedicated to equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to develop and deliver inspirational, high-quality interdisciplinary STEM teaching.
'Our aim is for learners to be highly enthusiastic, confident and engaged in their STEM learning and supporting practitioners and enhancing their ability is key to this.'
Deputy First Minister John Swinney said: 'Effective career-long professional learning is vital in allowing teachers and practitioners to develop their STEM knowledge and skills. This funding will enable a variety of collaborative projects to provide resources and support for practitioners and teachers to deliver high quality and inspirational learning.
'This is critical to the aims of the STEM Strategy and ensuring that our children and young people are equipped with the STEM enthusiasm and skills needed for later life, and empowering them to gain a greater understanding of the world around them.'
The fund will support: early learning and childcare providers; primary schools; additional support needs providers; secondary schools; community learning and development; and school-based technical support staff.
