New grant provides STEM professional learning opportunities

The new Enhancing Professional Learning in STEM Grants Programme has awarded £187,000 to organisations and charities, local authorities and further and higher education institutes since it was launched in October 2018.

The grants programme, funded by Education Scotland and supported by the Scottish Government, aims to build the capacity and confidence of practitioners and to support the implementation of the STEM Education and Training Strategy.

The money awarded in the first round will help to provide 24 professional learning programmes and opportunities for practitioners working in early learning and childcare, primary, secondary and community learning and development settings.

School-based technical support staff will also benefit from new professional learning.

Practitioners will soon be able to engage with a variety of professional learning opportunities in a range of formats including online and face to face programmes delivered locally.

For a more detailed overview of the programme and the opportunities being developed check out this report.

Education Scotland is currently preparing to launch a second round of grant funding in the new financial year, beginning April 2019.
