Early learning and childcare expansion – workforce opportunities

The Scottish Government is working in partnership with local authorities to deliver a transformational expansion of early learning and childcare. Children (3- and 4-year-olds, and a quarter of 2-year-olds) will be able to access 1140 hours per year of high quality provision from August 2020. Local authorities are phasing in the enhanced offer between now and August 2020. Further information on how this will be delivered locally is available from your local authority.

The Parent Club website will provide information on the expansion and changes taking place. The Parent Club website also has parenting tips, advice and helpful information for parents on a range of topics including details about a child’s entitlement to funded early learning and childcare.

To support the expansion of early learning and childcare, a national recruitment campaign is being undertaken in the New Year through television, radio and social media, to inform parents and school-leavers about the job opportunities. Further information can be found on the Childcare Careers Scotland website.
