Schools programme (secondary)

The Scottish Attainment Challenge aims to achieve equity in educational outcomes, with a particular focus on closing the poverty-related attainment gap.  The Attainment Scotland Fund is supporting up to 133 secondary schools, who will receive up to £11.5 million for projects to close the attainment gap.  This includes secondary schools within the nine Challenge Authorities and 28 secondary schools in eleven other authorities.

The funding will enable secondary schools with pupils living in areas of deprivation to improve their literacy, numeracy and health and wellbeing through a range of projects devised by the schools themselves.  This builds on existing work with primary schools to ensure no child or young person in Scotland is held back because of their background.

The Attainment Advisor works in partnership with local authority staff, quality improvement officers, school leaders, teachers and partner agencies to support schools to develop, implement and deliver their improvement plans.
