How to use this learning and assessment resource to improve practice
The aim of this resource is to support exploration of the themes of responsibility, emotions, friendship, risk, consequence, and influences.
The activities can be used in classrooms and youth work settings to develop skills and knowledge relevant to the health and wellbeing curriculum. The materials are linked to some of the relevant experiences and outcomes.
The resource covers the following themes:
- An introduction to knife crime in Scotland;
- Reassurance - Information on safety and who to turn to for help if needed;
- Risks and Consequences - Guidance on recognising risk, consequences of conflict, personal control;
- Resilience - Recognising and dealing with emotions, assertiveness, making informed choices, recognising and resisting peer pressure;
- Responsibility - Advice on helping ourselves and others, and bystander responsibility.

- To what extent do we use whole-school approaches or class-based approaches to develop emotional resilience?
- As practitioners, do we support young people to explore choice in situations of conflict?
