Why 'leave a legacy'?

This is just the beginning. The event itself is not the end of your Transform. You may find the real surge of enthusiasm has been created and you may want to take advantage of this opportunity. Can you think of any creative ways to leave a legacy?

What are the intended outcomes?

  • On-going and shared discussions about Transform.
  • Awareness of the impact made.
  • Show off your Transform.

How to 'leave a legacy'

Take what you need from this list of possible approaches to this task.

Activities

Evaluate

What was the impact of Transform? Has it transformed you, your community, your school or anything you belong to? What have you learned about yourself? What skills for learning, life and work have you gained? These might include personal skills, thinking skills and employability skills. You may decide to facilitate a reflective activity to revisit the skills strengthened and reflect and discuss how they progressed.

Share Your Experience

You may simply talk to others personally about the event or communicate through social media. For more information about Social Media - see Transform Task – Invest Your Audience.

Glow Group

All Scottish schools have access to Glow. Create a Glow group for your Transform if you have not done so already. Fill the Glow group with images, videos, blog posts and comments. You may upload an evaluation sheet or other documents that help formulate discussion. For members of the community/local businesses you could create a website with the same tools.

Watch your Transform

You may want to create a DVD of the production or documentary of the whole process. A way of viewing this might be to host a cinema experience of the event, for the participants to reflect on their experience and the skills they have developed. The participants may have made many connections to people and this is one way of staying in touch.

Continue as artists

New projects may have been created that stemmed and grew from your Transform. For example, many new musical bands and dance groups were formed. Think about what you learned from Transform and how you could apply that in a new context or create something else. Make yourself known locally and nationally as there may be ways of connecting with others who have a Transform experience in the future.
Consider what is next for adult learners
Think of where adults go from here. It is important not to lose the connection gained from this project. What further destinations may be available for adult learners and learners who have perhaps reconnected with the community and education?

Turn your experience of Transform into a career

You may have found this experience to be invaluable and want to continue to further develop the skills you have gained. Take a look at Skills Development Scotland’s ‘My World of Work’ website for some information on the Creative Industries where you will find find some useful videos on working backstage, becoming a stage technician and how to prepare for a creative job interview.

Skills Development Scotland along with The Alliance of Sector Skills Council Scotland have also published an IAG fact sheet about the creative and cultural industries.

If you have a Glow account you may also find this video useful. From the 'Meeting Room Recordings' page, click on ‘Working in the Theatre’ to view the video. It shows a Glow meet that was recorded as part of ‘World of Work Wednesdays’ which features Simon Sharkey, Associate Director of National Theatre of Scotland. Simon and his colleagues discuss careers in theatre and working in the creative industry.

Checkpoint
  • Now enjoy the success of your Transform and continue to think of ways you can leave a legacy.
