Profiling exemplification - Learner conversations

What is this?

This video case study provides information and examples around learner conversations in the context of profiling and reporting. it supports teachers and practitioners to engage with learners in meaningful discussions about their career aspirations and skills development in the context of DYW.
The exemplar relates directly to the newly released DYW profiling guidance and associated learning resource.

Who is this for?

This exemplification will be useful for practitioners involved in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) agenda.

It supports professional reflections on profiling in the context of DYW and the skills development of learners across education.

How to use this learning and assessment resource to improve practice?

Teachers and practitioners may use these video clips to reflect upon, plan and implement meaningful conversations with learners about the development of their skills as well as academic progress and work-based learning experiences. This will then allow learners to profile their progress in order to plan, articulate and progress their career aspirations and future pathways.

Improvement questions

You are invited to reflect on the following questions:

  • What in your view defines a meaningful learner conversation?
  • What mechanisms do I/my school use to provide opportunities for learner conversations?
  • To what extend are other key adults involved to support the learner conversations about future pathways and careers?
  • How do you ensure learners are able to formally reflect upon and record key outcomes of the their conversations (eg. through the use of e-portfolios or My World of Work?)
