How to use this exemplar to improve practice

This video along with reflective questions invites you to consider how you can share learning success through children informing their parents with a weekly e-mail. Watch the video and consider, individually or as a team, the following improvement questions:

  • How do you exemplify what children are doing in your school and ensure they know what skills they are learning?
  • How do you ensure that parents are kept up to date with the skills children are developing?
  • How do you work alongside the children to ensure they have a regular voice to discuss their skills developments?

Explore this exemplar

What was done?

Children discussed weekly the skills they were developing through their projects. They sent their parents an e-mail to update them on what they had achieved and what they were continuing to learn.

Why it was done?

Staff wanted to ensure that children understood their learning and could express their opinions on how they were developing in class.

What was the impact?

Learners were able to express well the skills they were developing. Regular e-mails to parents from their children helped to give families a better understanding of what their children were learning.
