School inspection framework and models: Our engagement with children and young people
One of the most important parts of our work is to listen to children and young people and find out their views.
As part of our engagement work we plan to want to listen to the views of children and young people. We will ask for their views about inspection in different ways at different times. We will update this page as our work develops.
Firstly we want to listen and understand what children and young people think about school inspections. This will help us to gather ideas, identify challenges and opportunities.
During January 2025 we will be meeting with children and young people from different parts of Scotland. They will help us create workshop materials to make sure we are asking the right questions.
Once we have created these workshop materials with the help of children and young people, we will meet with lots more children and young people through different organisations to gather their views.
By Spring 2025 we plan to gather views from a wide range of children and young people across the country about school inspection.
We will meet with organisations that represent the views of children and young people. We will also talk with the groups of children and young people they represent.
We will use the information they provide to help us develop inspections for the future. We might ask schools and local authorities to ask views of children and young people. This will depend on how things have developed in the first phase of the project.
Once we have views from groups of children and young people, we plan to create an online questionnaire which anyone can complete. The questionnaire will ask for views on the things we have been told during our previous engagement.
The questionnaire will be available on our website and we will share it with local authorities and children’s organisations.
We will continue to update these pages as our engagement work with children and young people progresses.
