Education Scotland begins work on the Curriculum Improvement Cycle
Education Scotland has now begun work on the review of the Scottish curriculum also known as the Curriculum Improvement Cycle (CIC).
The CIC is a systematic review of the Scottish curriculum to ensure it remains up to date and relevant for children and young people.
In the latest episode of The Learning Conversations, Education Scotland’s Chief Executive Gillian Hamilton talks to Strategic Director Ollie Bray about the work of the CIC and what it means for education in Scotland.
You can listen to it on Podbean, or wherever you get your podcasts, and for the first time, the podcast will be available to watch on the Education Scotland YouTube channel.
We are committed to providing regular updates on the CIC. To support the work of the CIC, Education Scotland has set up a dedicated Web Hub / Glow Blog. This page provides background to the CIC and aims to keep those interested updated on the process and the progress being made. If you are looking to learn more about the CIC and what has led to this work, then a good place to start exploring is the About the CIC tab. You will also find lots of information and links to a variety of publications in the Useful Reading section.
From October we will be publishing a termly e-bulletin giving updates on progress with the CIC. You can sign up here.
By the end of 2024 we plan to publish three draft working papers to share some of the findings from pilot curriculum review work over the last 18 months as well as options for evolving the ‘technical framework’ for Scotland’s curriculum. The third paper will focus on the importance of making sure that we all have clarity regarding the language and terminology of curriculum reform.
In early 2025 we will publish a fourth working paper that will set out in more detail how the review process will work, including the review of curriculum areas.
