Young carers

Your child may be looking after someone in your family who has an illness, a disability, a mental health problem or a substance misuse issue, and will probably be taking on a practical and emotional caring role.

How can I help?

  • Let your child have time with their friends.
  • Listen to what they have to say.
  • Ensure your child has time for their own hobbies and interests.
  • Find a Young Carers' support network in your area.
  • Keep in touch with the school.
  • Involve your child in decisions and plans where appropriate.

Where can I find further advice?
