Pupil Support Leadership Programme

This programme is aimed at classroom teachers who are looking to expand their knowledge and expertise in the area of ‘pupil support’.

The programme aims:

  • To develop the next generation of leaders of Pupil Support
  • To provide a pathway for experienced teachers to allow them to advance their knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities in Pupil Support areas through critical thinking and reflection
  • To ensure sustainability and build the capacity of future leaders
  • To discuss and reflect issues pertinent to becoming an effective leader of Pupil Support

The expected outcomes for participants are:

  • Staff that are reflective, knowledgeable, and capable of leading in Pupil Support effectively
  • Staff that can effectively lead change, in line with school, authority and national priorities
  • Staff that recognise the importance of the knowledge and skills relevant to improving outcomes for children and young people

This programme is aimed at classroom teachers who are looking to expand their knowledge and expertise in the area of ‘pupil support’. The course is open to teachers across all sectors with a minimum of 4 years’ experience, or new / acting Principal Teachers.

The programme consists of 10 virtual twilight sessions delivered over the course of an academic session.

The core sessions include:

  1. GTCS Standards for Middle Leadership and the policy context for Pupil Support
  2. The role of Pupil Support and Self- Evaluation/ Case Study Task
  3. UNCRC and Pupil Voice
  4. Safeguarding and Child Protection
  5. Health & Wellbeing / GIRFEC
  6. Understanding and supporting ASN
  7. Communication and collaboration for positive relationships
  8. Parents as partners
  9. Working with other key partners
  10. Professional Enquiry Feedback session
