The University of Aberdeen offers a choice of routes to gaining a Masters in Education or a Master of Science with both routes allowing for areas of specialism to be named within the award.

The Masters in Education route allows professionals to construct a programme of study aligned to their own specific interests and responsibilities. For participants in schools, the courses align with the Standard for Career Long Professional Learning (SCLPL).

Degree structure for all routes

Participants will be able to choose from a portfolio of Masters level courses (usually each of 30 credits), to construct a pathway of study following their own interests and professional engagement. A comprehensive list of available courses is published on an annual basis.

Participants who successfully complete 60 credits (usually two 30-credit courses) may leave with a Postgraduate Certificate. Those who successfully complete 120 credits (four 30-credit courses) may leave with a Postgraduate Diploma.

The Masters degree is awarded on the successful completion of four 30-credit courses and one Masters project (of 60 credits) in other words, the PG DIP and a Masters project. The Masters project focuses on an area of personal and professional interest to you for you to explore in more detail.

Participants who have no previous engagement at postgraduate level will be advised to undertake our 30-credit course 'Research Methods for Professional Learning' as part of their Masters studies.

All our Masters routes are available part-time and online. We do not offer a full-time Masters degree in Education.
