Online Code of Conduct

Respect and privacy

  1. Recording of the chat pane is not permitted unless explicit permission is requested and granted by the event organiser.
  2. Audio and video recording of the event is not permitted unless explicit permission is requested and granted by the event organiser and relevant panel members/attendees.
  3. Respect each other's privacy. It’s great to connect on social media, to continue sharing ideas, support each other and learn from each other. However, please do not share screen shots that identify facilitators or participants.
  4. Respect confidentiality. If someone shares a personal experience, please do not share further. Equally, be mindful of the personal experiences you share in terms of your own wellbeing.
  5. All forms of abuse, harassment, bullying and intimidation will not be tolerated during and/or after the event. If you have breached this protocol you will be removed from the event by the organiser and you may not be admitted to any future Education Scotland online events.

Compassionate communication

  1. Respect each other’s identities, names and pronouns at all times. If unsure of the pronoun someone uses, it is best to avoid gendered language (e.g. use a person’s name if you don’t know their pronouns).
  2. Diversity of opinion is welcome, however, opinion that is intentionally prejudiced, utilises hate speech or specifically targets individuals or groups is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
  3. Avoid making assumptions about people’s values, attitudes, behaviours, life experiences and feelings.
  4. Turn off your microphone when you are not speaking.
  5. You can use the “Hand Up” function to request the opportunity to unmute and speak. The facilitator(s) will invite you to contribute when appropriate, but there may not be enough time for everyone to speak.
  6. You can use the chat pane to make a comment, ask a question, post resource links or communicate any technical issues.
  7. Listen to and follow the instructions of facilitator(s), including their decision of what is off-topic and who is next to speak and for how long. If you repeatedly do not follow the instructions of facilitators, you may be removed from the event and you may not be admitted to future Education Scotland online events.

This online code of conduct has been inspired by the Progress in Dialogue Safe Space Policy.
