Applied Growth Mindset

This course draws on research by Carol Dweck which endorses taking a ‘growth mindset’ approach to learning. This is where people understand that their intelligence and abilities can be developed through effort, positive attitude to failure, and persistence.

The course has been accredited by Glasgow Caledonian University to carry 15 credits at level 11 on the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF). It encourages participants to reflect on their own school setting and develop a mindset project that meets their school and community context and ensure their projects focus on sustainable culture change.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of an innovative educational programme of work and meet the requirements for ongoing professional learning that has been developed to take into account the National Improvement Framework, Curriculum for Excellence and HGIOS4.

 

Adopting growth mindset practices empowers teachers, parents and pupils to take responsibility for their own development and progression.

This learning experience is designed to support, develop and challenge thinking about growth mindset and how to unlock the potential of all pupils. The purpose of this course is to equip participants with the knowledge to understand the concepts of growth mindset and consider how to apply this in the context of their own school / learning community.

Materials have been developed within a Scottish context based on Curriculum for Excellence and the Scottish Government's policy of raising attainment and closing the poverty related attainment gap.

 

The course is targeted at teaching practitioners and is applicable across nursery, primary and secondary schools regardless of subjects taught. There is however an opportunity to specialise (should you wish to) and focus on mathematical mindsets.

The course will take one year, consisting of six months blended learning followed by six months project development and delivery.
