Effective Mentoring
This two-day training focuses on the knowledge, skills and understandings that are critical for those who work with probationer teachers. The training is guided by the belief that learning to teach is a career long developmental process that involves a continuous cycle of planning, teaching and reflecting. The heart of the work is to respond to each new teacher's developmental and contextual needs and to promote the ongoing examination of classroom practice
Participants will be able to further develop and strengthen the support practices in their schools by:
- Recognising and practising the attitudes, behaviours and skills of effective mentors
- Identifying new teacher needs and modifying support in response to those needs
All Highland Council teaching staff with a responsibility for mentoring probationers on the GTCS Induction Scheme.
The duration of the programme will be 12 months.
