Head Teacher Leadership Course

This course will be delivered by Head Teachers and Senior Officers from within North Lanarkshire Council. North Lanarkshire’s leadership framework has gone through a considerable scrutiny process and has successfully been endorsed by Education Scotland.  As part of the programme, participants will be asked to identify, undertake and report on a change initiative within their establishment.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To develop the next generation of head teachers
  • To provide a pathway for senior leaders to allow them to advance in their profession through critical thinking and reflection on action
  • To ensure sustainability and build the capacity of future leaders within the service
  • To discuss and reflect issues pertinent to becoming an effective Head Teacher
  • To consider current issues relevant to Scottish education

The expected outcomes of the programme are:

  • Staff that are reflective and capable of leading effectively
  • Staff that can effectively lead change, in line with school, authority and national priorities
  • Staff that recognise the importance of effective leadership in improving outcomes for children and young people

Open to experienced Principal Teachers, Depute Head Teachers or new Head Teachers.

The cost of this programme is £250 per candidate and involves 10 core twilight sessions, with some additional offers throughout the session.

Session 3            24th October 2024                                   Leadership Theories and Styles

Session 4            7th November 2024                                HGIOS and Self Evaluation

Session 5            28th November 2024                              Measures and Outcomes (Ryan Miller)

Session 6            23rd January 2025                                   Leading and Sustaining Change

Session 7            13th February 2025                                 Coaching Conversations

Session 8            6th March 2025                                        Conflict Resolution

Session 9            27th March 2025                                      Equity and Tackling Poverty

Session 10         24th April 2025                                          Evaluative Writing

The full programme is delivered digitally via Microsoft Teams, however, some hybrid sessions may be offered (participants can attend in person or join remotely via Teams).
