Pupil Support Leadership Programme

This course will be delivered digitally by a range of school leaders with experience in leading Pupil Support, along with Senior Officers from within North Lanarkshire Council. North Lanarkshire’s leadership framework has gone through a considerable scrutiny process and has successfully been endorsed by Education Scotland. As part of the programme, participants will be asked to identify, undertake a Pupil Support Case Study, with a related change initiative within their establishment.

The aims of the programme are:

  • To develop the next generation of leaders of Pupil Support
  • To provide a pathway for experienced teachers to allow them to advance their knowledge, understanding, skills and abilities in Pupil Support areas through critical thinking and reflection
  • To ensure sustainability and build the capacity of future leaders
  • To discuss and reflect issues pertinent to becoming an effective leader of Pupil Support

The expected outcomes of the programme are:

  • Staff that are reflective, knowledgeable, and capable of leading in Pupil Support effectively
  • Staff that can effectively lead change, in line with school, authority and national priorities
  • Staff that recognise the importance of the knowledge and skills relevant to improving outcomes for children and young people

This programme is open to class teachers across all sectors with a minimum of 4 years’ experience or new Principal Teachers.

The cost of the programme is £250 per candidate.

It will involve 10 core twilight sessions, as detailed below, with specific dates to follow:

  • Session 1 - 19th September 2024  GTCS Standards for Middle Leadership and the policy context for Pupil Support
  • Session 2 - 24th October 2024        UNCRC and Pupil Voice
  • Session 3 - 14th November 2024    Equity and Tackling Poverty
  • Session 4 -   5th December 2024     Measures, Outcomes and Evaluative Writing
  • Session 5 - 23rd January 2025        The Role of Pupil Support and Professional Enquiry
  • Session 6 - 20th February 2025       HWB/GIRFEC
  • Session 7 - 20th March 2025           Understanding and Supporting
  • Session 9 -   8th   May 2025             Working in Partnership
  • Session 10 - 29th May 2025             Professional Enquiry Feedback
