Senior Leadership Programme

The programme has 3 elements:

  • 2 Day Annual National Education Conference 17/18 November 2016;
  • 1 Day course – ‘So You Want To Be A Headteacher’ – 7 December 2016;
  • 1 Day course – ‘Managing a School – Keeping Yourself  Right’.

In addition to your attendance at and participation in the 4 days, there will be pre-course exercises and briefings and post course activities.

For individuals the main benefits are in undertaking a SCEL accredited programme of professional learning geared towards headship and senior leadership.

The programme provides an opportunity for cognitive development, reflection, collaboration and experiential learning as described in the Model of Professional Learning. The course also seeks to develop the leadership skills and attributes in line with the Model of Educational Leadership and the GTCS Standards for Leadership and Management.

The programme is delivered by experienced practitioners and partners from across Scottish education e.g. HMI; Scottish Government; Education Scotland; SCEL; SQA and GTCS. There will also be input from leaders from outside the world of education providing challenge to our thinking and professional development.

Existing and newly appointed head teachers, depute head teachers, and those aspiring to senior leadership positions, and participants in Into Headship.

All participants should be from the secondary sector.
