Why might I need to register and log in to the website?

On our website we have a suite of self-directed Professional Learning Activities (PLA) – these are interactive learning materials that allow you to write responses and reflections to prompts, to save your progress and to keep a record of your learning.

You can even download a summary of your learning which can be used in to support your Professional Review and Development (PRD) discussions with your line manager.

This information can only be accessed by you and therefore you need to create a website profile and log in to access the Professional Learning Activities (PLAs).

Please note a number of our leadership programmes and our open access professional learning offers make use of PLAs too.

In addition many of our leadership programmes also have a programme area which you will be given access to once registered on the programme. Your website profile is linked to the programme area to allow you to access the learning materials.

There are now two ways you can gain access to our website:

  1. Register using your work or personal email address and create a website profile.
  2. Log in with Glow

To register using your work or personal email address and create a website profile:

  1. Go to https://education.gov.scot/professional-learning/ and click on the purple register button on the right hand side:

    Screenshot of PL homepage

  2. This will bring up a short registration pop up form for you to complete which includes a few basic details about you and your role in the education sector:

  3. Once you have registered and created your password for the website you will have access to the suite of self-directed Professional Learning activities (PLAs).

Please note, you should receive this pop up message asking you to verify your email address:

    Thank you for registering screen

  2. This will bring up the log in pop up page:

Log in or register pop-up screen

  3. Log in using the same email address that you registered with each time. If you forget your password, please use the Forgotten password?

Once you have registered and are logged in you can access and update your details by going to Account Details under the My Account drop down menu:

Please note if you accessed our website using your Glow details and these have changed, contact us on edspll@educationscotland.gov.scot for further support if required.

Once you have registered and are logged in you can access our suite of self-directed Professional Learning Activities (PLAs).

You can browse through them all,  search activities by word or phrase or filter by leadership level or theme.

As previously noted a number of our leadership programmes and our open access professional learning offers make use of PLAs too. They will name specific PLAs and/or link directly to them.

Professional Learning Activities (PLAs) are all designed in a similar way but ultimately are the content,  length and structure suits the learning material of each PLA.

They will all have:

Depending on the learning material, some PLAs may be quite short but others may take longer. Fortunately you can save your progress as you go (there is a Save button after each reflective question in a learning step) and come back to them at a later date!

Once you have registered and are logged in you can access “in progress” or completed Professional Learning Activities (PLAs) by going to ‘My Professional Learning Activities’ under the ‘My Account’ drop down menu:

Any Professional Learning Activity (PLA) you start will automatically show here (see example below).

My PLAs screen

What information can you get on this page?

  • You can apply filters to show only those completed or those in progress.
  • You can see your progress with the progress bar and number of steps completed.
  • You can download a summary of your responses to the reflective questions.
  • You can even share an interesting PLAs with colleagues through social media or email! They will, of course, need to register and log in to access this.

It is not uncommon for website users to set up more than one profile over time. It may be that you have changed your work email and decide to register again or you may have simply forgotten that you have registered!

Unfortunately the website does not automatically link profiles together so some people can end up with work saved under multiple profiles.

If you think this has happened to you, please contact our team on: edspll@educationscotland.gov.scot giving as much information as you can in terms of email addresses you have registered with.

We can then work with you to remove duplicate profiles.

Please note though, that work saved under one profile is not always able be transferred to another. Profiles can only be combined if, for example, you created a new profile but hadn't saved any work to it yet.

The following open access offers and programmes showcase new approaches to the professional learning offered from Education Scotland’s Professional Learning and Leadership team from August 2024.

Coaching and Enquiry are core aspects of our national model of professional learning and as such we wanted to ensure that participants can begin engaging with the offer at any time, can dip in to specific areas of the learning resources or work through the whole open access resource sequentially and can complete their learning flexibly to suit their needs.

Please go to our Coaching in Education and Enquiry in Education pages to find out more about these open access learning resources.

The new approach to our middle leadership programmes allows participants to begin engaging with the learning on offer at any time and can complete the programme flexibly to suit their needs.

Please go to our Aspiring to Middle Leadership and Middle Leaders Leading Change pages to find out more about these programmes:
