PISA is the The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development programme for international student assessment (PISA). It measures how well 15-year-olds can apply their knowledge in sciences, mathematics, and reading to real-life situations. It takes place every three years and involves more than 80 countries, and 700,000 students, worldwide.

The main focus for PISA 2025 is science. The innovative domain for 2025 is learning in the digital world (oecd.org). The assessment will also include an ongoing assessment of health and wellbeing.

In Scotland, over 3,000 learners from 118 secondary schools will take part in the assessment between September and October 2025.
