What was done?

A seminar to explore the issues of leadership in the context of closing the equity gap, followed by attendance at Columba 1400 HT leadership academy, then a coaching programme, including how to have ‘challenging conversations’.

Why?

Feedback from the original seminar indicated that HTs required support for their own leadership of the Scottish Attainment Challenge.

What was the impact?

Feedback from a seminar for headteachers held to explore Leadership for Equity resulted in:

Three programmes of professional learning to support the development of leadership for headteachers (HTs) in the Scottish Attainment Challenge (SAC) schools in Dundee. These were designed to help develop headteachers understanding of the importance of their role in delivering the outcomes of the SAC. The focus of  bespoke programmes is 'Leadership for Equity' The programmes were delivered through partnerships with Columba 1400, School Leaders Scotland and The Mudd Partnership. The programmes took a collaborative and coaching approach. Early outcomes are described below.

  • The support for HTs is helping to improve their confidence as leaders of learning in their own establishments and keep them focussed on excellence and equity.

Capacity is being built across the local authority as we provide opportunities and support to help HTs become Systems' Leaders
