Connect, formerly the Scottish Parent Teacher Council (SPTC), is a Scottish charity dedicated to encouraging and shaping high quality parental engagement in their children’s learning and the life of the school.
Connect is a membership organisation working with parents, families, educators and others in Scottish education and beyond to make parental engagement as good as it can be. Drawing on extensive experience, Connect shares what works so that effective partnerships and strong relationships between parents, families, schools, early learning and childcare and the wider community can develop.
As well as offering membership for parent groups and advice for individual parents, Connect also offers membership, advice and training about parental engagement for school leaders and educators to support their professional learning.
Membership with Connect includes an increasing range of benefits for parents and parent groups such as Parent Councils and Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs). Benefits include membership-linked insurance, face-to-face and online information sessions, leaflets, helpful resources, access to the Members’ only area of Connect’s website, a telephone helpline and regular news updates.
Our social media platforms, blogs and website with resources for professionals, educators, parents and parent groups, provide useful information on a range of topics. Connect also holds Twitter chats and will be offering Facebook groups too.
Parents can sign up to Connect’s Parents’ Voice to be included in surveys and consultations on a range of topics relating to education and children and young people’s wellbeing.
With funding support from Skills Development Scotland, Connect continues to work on the Partnership Schools Scotland programme, supporting schools across the country to implement Dr Joyce Epstein’s model for family, school and community partnerships.
The five year pilot is building examples of how partnerships make an impact on outcomes for young people.
