This programme is for educators across Scotland at any stage in their career. By educators we don’t just mean teachers, we also include ELC (Early Learning and Childcare) and CLD (Community Learning and Development) educators.

As these sessions are delivered via Glow Teams, participants must have a Glow account. If you do not have one, you will need to liaise with your employer / local authority to arrange this.

This programme consists of six workshops, each lasting approximately two and a half hours. Prior to, and in between workshops there will be related tasks and reading to complete, along with coaching session commitments (individual arrangements made with your assigned coaching partner / trio / group).

Overall, this programme involves approximately 24 hours of national learning with 15 hours of group contact time.

The professional learning sessions will be delivered as live sessions via Glow Teams and are a blend of tutor input, group discussions, group and partnership tasks and self-reflection.

Emotional wake: the giving and receiving of feedback + next steps

We would ask that prior to signing up for the programme that you check your calendar against the dates for each session to ensure that you are able to attend all of the six sessions.

Where dates may coincide with school/team calendar events e.g. Parents evenings, team meetings we would ask that you don’t commit to the programme, or speak with your line manager to ensure that your attendance will not be impacted by such events.

The aim of the programme is to help you develop an understanding of:

  • what coaching is and the conditions required to support the development of a coaching culture
  • the benefits of using coaching techniques to support improvements
  • the key aspects of coaching with regards to ethos, relationships and culture

The programme will introduce you to a variety of coaching techniques which can be used to support and challenge others in achieving their potential. These techniques will help you enter coaching conversations to develop skills in coaching with a co-coach, or in small group settings.

Once the programme has been completed participants will be given the option to complete a 2000 word written submission in which you will review literature and reflect on your understanding of, and application of non-directive coaching approaches. On successful completion of the assignment teaching staff will receive Professional Recognition in Coaching from the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS). All others will receive recognition of completion from the GTCS.
