Food, STEM and Sustainability: From farm to fork

This programme equips practitioners with skills, knowledge and confidence about Scotland’s food and drink sector. It gives an understanding of the relevance of STEM and sustainability across the farm to fork chain, provides tools for classroom use and delivers up-to-date information on employer skills and progression pathways in this sector.

This programme is delivered in partnership between the Royal Highland Education Trust (RHET), The National Museum of Rural Life (NMoRL), Quality Meat Scotland (QMS), Food and Drink Federation Scotland (FDF Scotland) and The Rowett Institute.

The programme equips practitioners with skills, knowledge and confidence about Scotland’s food and drink sector. It gives an understanding of the relevance of STEM and sustainability across the farm to fork chain, provides tools for classroom use and delivers up-to-date information on progression pathways in this sector.

A key part of the programme is a visit to a food or drink producer. Run in partnership with national food education providers and industry, this event will demonstrate the science and technology involved in the farm to fork process; the skills required by employers; the relevance of STEM curriculum subjects to different careers and progression pathways; and career routes available in this dynamic sector.

Upper primary/secondary teachers with a STEM remit; DYW leads.

6 hours (including an afternoon visit or hands-on activities session)
