Maths Through Story

Published 03/09/2020.  Last updated 29/02/2024

This interactive training develops early level practitioners' understanding of explicit and implicit mathematical story books and how these can act as a vehicle for learners.

Using maths story books in the early years is a well-established practice. There are many story books which resonate with mathematical themes. These stories can help to contextualise or humanise mathematics and when presented in the picture book format with abstract mathematical concepts being visually represented for readers, they provide a useful tool to develop learners’ conceptual understanding.

This interactive training develops practitioners' understanding of explicit and implicit mathematical story books and how these can act as a vehicle for learners to be introduced to new mathematical topics, or for reviewing or consolidating mathematical concepts. Practitioners will also upskill their understanding of early number, in particular counting principles, addition and subtraction, fractions and problem solving.

This programme is for practitioners from early level to first level.

Half day training
