Understanding Social Enterprise

The one day Understanding Social Enterprise Programme is not about teaching teachers about social enterprise. It’s about helping them to understand what social enterprise is and how they might use it in their individual context to deliver learning that is relevant, contextualised and fun. Teachers leave confident that they have the ability to let young people own this learning and as a result many have reported a change in their own approach to teaching and learning.

This one day programme will allow participants to learn more about social enterprise and gain an understanding of how social enterprise can work in their school setting. It will allow them to explore the ways that social enterprise can support young people to develop skills for learning, life and work by learning about the support that is available to them, introducing them to the materials and case studies developed by the Social Enterprise Academy, and allowing them time to reflect on their current activity and how social enterprise can enhance it.

By establishing a social enterprise in their school, young people are engaging in the practical and creative skills required to run a business. They are developing a range of skills, gaining confidence, increasing their self-esteem and enriching their sense of social justice. They are having a real life learning experience that is relevant and fun!

They will share with a range of other educational staff on the programme different ideas on how Social Enterprise can be introduced into schools.

This programme is open to all teachers who are keen to develop a hands-on understanding of Social Enterprise.

Normally a one day programme, although it can be delivered flexibly around the times teachers have available.
