Gender-based violence early intervention programme
The Gender-based violence (GBV) early intervention programme is for primary practitioners interested in early intervention approaches to prevent gender based violence.
This programme aligns with the Mentors in violence prevention programme for secondary settings. It provides a cohesive, joined up approach to prevention across sectors.
This is for primary practitioners looking to lead on GBV prevention work in their setting.
The programme will benefit practitioners looking to develop leadership skills and increase their understanding and confidence in relation to GBV prevention and gender equality.
The programme contributes to whole-setting approaches to equalities work. It connects to priorities such as Rights Respecting Schools and The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
The outcomes for this programme are to:
- increase awareness of gender-based violence and the relationship it has to wider inequalities
- improve understanding of intersectionality and adopting inclusive approaches in education
- increase confidence in using early intervention and preventative approaches for addressing gender stereotypes and unconscious bias in primary settings
- to support wider delivery of professional learning relating to GBV early intervention
- to empower practitioners to lead on GBV early intervention in their setting
- to provide opportunities for collaboration and access to support
The programme includes four sessions, with an optional follow-up session in May 2027.
