Higher PE Webinar Series
Education Scotland, with the support of SQA, hosted a series of webinars aimed at sharing effective practices in Higher Physical Education. Experienced professionals from various settings discussed their teaching and learning methods, providing insights on how to deliver the content of the Higher PE course through practical experiential learning.
Webinar 1 – Potential ways to structure your Higher Physical Education course.

Mr. R. Durno from Trinity High School, Ms. A. Montgomery from McLaren High School, and Mr. K. Haldane from Graeme High School shared their approaches to structuring and delivering their Higher PE programs.
Webinar 2 - Scenario and exam techniques.
In Webinar 2 (PDF, 832KB), we focused on the scenario and exam techniques:
**Section 3 – The Scenario**
Mr. S. McGeady from St Benedict’s High School provided practical examples of how to effectively deliver the scenario and how to approach it in an exam setting.

Webinar 3 - Differentiating higher materials and personal development plans.
In Webinar 3 (PDF, 1.8MB), we focused on the differentiation of higher materials and the coverage of personal development plans.
**Differentiation of Higher Materials**
Mr K Bryden from Marr College discussed how he utilises online tools, such as Padlet, to enable learners to collaboratively enhance the quality of their written responses.
Mrs F Fisher from Balfron Academy presented an introduction to ‘adaptive’ teaching practices and shared how she has developed this approach with her Higher Physical Education classes.
**Section 2 – Personal Development Planning**
Mrs C Pegrum from Chryston High School and Mr S McCracken from Woodfarm High School provided examples of how they implement Personal Development Planning within their Higher courses.
Scottish Qualification Authority and Education Scotland joint event
On Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Education Scotland and SQA held a joint Higher PE event aimed at enhancing understanding of the national standards and exploring the learning and teaching that support these standards.
During the afternoon session, participants examined the learning and teaching aspects related to the scenario and data collection elements of the Higher course.
The conversations, thoughts, and suggestions from participants have been captured on the following documents and will be shared through the following slides.
