Tracking and monitoring of attendance of children and young people varies across schools and local authorities. 

National data is available in two formats:

1. School education statistics - A collection of statistics on school education in Scotland.
2. Fortnightly School Attendance Information 2023-24 - Attendance and absence data for pupils in local authority schools.

At local authority and school level there is an abundance of data available attendance. The following principles have been created by Education Scotland and representatives from ADES. These principles provide support for establishments and local authorities to review the right data at the right time.
