The aim of this resource is to support leaders and those working within leadership teams to reflect on their understanding of pedagogical leadership as well as their role as a pedagogical leader and how this can be developed further or improved through professional reflection and dialogue.

This resource takes the form of a presentation with reflective questions and video clips including clips from a conversation filmed with June O’Sullivan CEO of the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) and adviser to the UK Government and policy makers about services for early years across the country.

How to use this resource

There are number of interactive slides to stimulate reflection and discussion. The resource can be used with other leaders beyond your own setting to support professional dialogue. It can also be used to consider the practice of individual teams within one setting.

The presentation covers a number of issues therefore, you may find it useful to use it over a number of sessions, with each session having a focus, for example:

  • What is effective pedagogical leadership?
  • Linking research in pedagogy with practice.
  • The role of the reflective practitioner to support effective pedagogical leadership.

The video clips can be used as part of the resource or on their own, or in addition to the presentation and corresponding notes. These offer additional information and commentary for each of the slides.
