In October 2022 Scotland was announced as the world’s first Daily Mile Nation. Around 187,000 school children in all of Scotland’s local authority areas are getting active for at least fifteen minutes a day meeting the criteria agreed with the Daily Mile Foundation. More than half of primary schools are now signed up to the Daily Mile.
The Daily Mile: Inclusion and Equity
Inclusivity and accessibility are at the heart of The Daily Mile. Encouraging participation from all children and young people regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances is a key priority within the program. The format of the Daily Mile allows for appropriate adjustments and/or modifications to be made, ensuring a positive experience for all children and young people.
The Daily Miles Disability Inclusion Resources were developed in partnership with Scottish Athletics, Scottish Disability, Sport & UK Athletics to support practitioners delivery of an inclusive Daily Mile program.
Commonwealth Games Legacy Campaign
The Daily Mile Commonwealth Games Legacy Challenge provides primary schools and nurseries with a simple cross-curricular resource that improves health and wellbeing. Schools that are signed up to The Daily Mile will be provided with a global map, setting out their 50 day journey across the Commonwealth to run, jog, walk or wheel the Games to its next location (Australia). Children are prompted to learn fun facts about landmarks, culture and sporting successes as they virtually travel the globe.
