Education Scotland Associates
We are seeking applications for a range of Education Scotland Associates (ESAs) with a variety of specialisms. The posts are on a part-time, pro rata basis and will be based throughout Scotland. Base location can be flexible. During this round of recruitment there are three different roles available:
- Children and Young People Improvement Collaborative ESAs (3 posts)
- Curriculum Improvement Cycle ESA – Social Studies (2 posts)
- Supporting Attendance ESAs (4 posts)
Working as an Education Scotland Associate is an exciting and varied role that will provide successful candidates with a national perspective in the education system. You will be joining a network of ESAs who are leading and supporting work as part of the refocussed Education Scotland.
The Education Scotland Associate role recognises our commitment to increasing opportunities for the profession to be engaged in the work of the organisation.
ESAs will work with us on an ‘as required’ basis whilst keeping existing roles within their setting. Engagement may be over 2 to 3 weeks or spread over the year depending on the nature of the work. ESAs will not be expected to undertake work on behalf of Education Scotland on non-working days, for example, weekends or school holidays.
ESAs will have opportunities to engage with stakeholders across Scotland and may be required to attend events or visit education settings nationwide. As part of the role, you may be required to travel, which may include staying overnight away from home.
All ESAs should have:
- excellent inter-personal skills
- the ability to support and work collaboratively with colleagues from Education Scotland, local authorities and partner agencies
- sound judgment based on evidence
- an ability to work independently and to clear deadlines
- good organisational and planning skills
- strong IT skills and confidence in using software to produce high quality materials for publication
- experience of building and maintaining productive and high-quality relationships with stakeholders and influencing developments
- an ability to model good practice, value diversity and promote equity and equality across all aspects of work
All applications must be endorsed by your Headteacher or Manager as appropriate. Your Local Authority or employer must agree to your release to be involved in this work. This information is included in the ESA application form.
A reimbursement of £196 per day will be made to the local authority/organisation for the days an ESA is released once a project has been completed or the maximum number of days has been reached.
These posts are national roles and we welcome applications from across Scotland. ESAs can be based at various locations across Scotland. Offices are available within Livingston, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness. Hybrid working is also possible within these roles.
To avoid any conflicts of interest, ESAs should not currently be working as an Inspector or Associate Inspector with HMIE.
