The post holder will be responsible for leading on curriculum development, quality improvement and curriculum review.

- Lead and direct the work of other staff within a curriculum area, cross cutting theme, or aspect of educational provision or practice ensuring effective delivery of guidance, advice and support activities. Striving to secure continuous improvement in learning, teaching, assessment and learner outcomes within a specified curriculum area and/or key aspects of education.
- Lead and manage key developments and initiatives (such as the Curriculum Improvement Cycle) within the framework of national policy and guidance, that empower practitioners to make full use of the flexibility provided by CfE to meet the needs of their pupils. Contribute to the development of strategy and policy for ensuring improvements that work in local circumstances within a specified curriculum area and/or aspects of education, ensuring alignment with the strategic objectives of Education Scotland.
- Working with other senior colleagues within Education Scotland, maintain ongoing review of a curriculum area or key aspects of education as part of an overall and continuous review of curriculum and its effective implementation led by Education Scotland.
- Provide expert knowledge, strategic support and advice within a specified curriculum area and/or key aspects of education to external stakeholders e.g. senior staff in local authorities, headteachers and a wide range of other leaders in national bodies, business and industry to influence and persuade key stakeholders on the direction and support.
- Lead and oversee the support for external professional learning networks and external groups and organisations to build capacity and ensure the effective identification and dissemination of best practice.
- Ensure the effective planning and delivery of national/regional/local priorities within a specific curriculum area and/or key aspects of education in line with business requirements, leading and coordinating activities across one or more sectors of education.
- Contribute to providing professional, comprehensive and informed advice and guidance to Scottish Government policy colleagues and Scottish Ministers to inform the development of policy in specific areas of education provision. Work in collaborative partnership with local authorities, stakeholder groups and national bodies and agencies to identify and share good practice and prioritise areas in need of support for improvement.

Essential criteria
Essential criteria include:
- Strong leadership and management skills with experience of successfully promoting the leadership and career-long professional learning of staff to improve learning, teaching and assessment.
- Experience of teaching in the curriculum area with a proven track record of productive relationships with stakeholders within and across sectors.
- Strong understanding of emerging national developments in the curriculum area, as well as strong understanding of other relevant aspects of education provision.
- Track record in successfully leading and delivering significant projects within the education sector that have proven impact on outcomes for learners.

This role is a grade C2.
You will stay on your current salary while on secondment. You can expect a small increase to compensate working during school holidays.
This post can be based in our Glasgow, Livingston, Dundee, Aberdeen or Inverness office locations, although as with most areas across the organisation, virtual and hybrid working is the current arrangement.
Our standard working hours are 35 hours per week. This role is hybrid compatible.
