Development officer: mentors in violence prevention

This is an exciting secondment opportunity to join Education Scotland as a development officer for the mentors in violence prevention programme. You will work with colleagues across early learning and childcare (ELC), schools and local authorities.

The opportunity is for an 8 month secondment, with possibility of extending to 23 months.

The post holder will report to the education officer for inclusion, wellbeing and equalities.

Development officers support:

  • embedding the mentors in violence prevention programme (MVP) in secondary schools
  • strategic and operational objectives relating to gender-based violence prevention

The post holder will:

  • support local authorities to deliver and embed the MVP programme in secondary schools in Scotland
  • support the development and delivery of professional learning opportunities which meet identified needs and priorities to prepare practitioners to deliver the MVP programme
  • build capacity and promote cultural change and improvement in line with current educational policy
  • liaise as necessary with school staff and partners to support the delivery of MVP in school and community settings
  • support networks of practitioners, trainers and co-ordinators to enable the sharing and improvement of practice
  • support development and delivery of a communication strategy to highlight the work of MVP
  • be expected to undertake any task consistent with the post that may be required by the organisation

Essential Criteria

The ideal candidate will:

  • have experience of delivering the MVP programme in secondary schools
  • have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well in teams and with stakeholders
  • demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • operate with impartiality, fairness and diplomacy and maintain confidentiality
  • have significant experience of working in a leadership capacity with proven positive impact
  • show a strong understanding of emerging developments across aspects of Scottish education
  • manage and deliver projects and programmes and report on their impact
  • have the ability to collate and analyse a range of quantitative and qualitative data and intelligence, identifying issues and solutions for improvement

Desirable Criteria

It is desirable for candidates to have completed the MVP Train the Trainers programme.

Competencies

Candidates will be expected to evidence the following competencies:

  1. Self-awareness
  2. Communications and engagement
  3. Improving performance
  4. Analysis and use of evidence

You will stay on your current salary while on secondment. A small increase may be available to compensate working during school holidays.

This post can be based in our Glasgow, Livingstone, Dundee, Aberdeen or Inverness office locations. Virtual and hybrid working is the current arrangement.
