An evening with Professor Laura Lundy, Co-Director of the Centre for Children’s Rights and Professor of Children's Rights, Queen’s University, Belfast and Professor of Law at University College Cork.

At this event Professor Lundy, renowned for developing The Lundy Model of Child participation, will discuss the paper ‘Children, classrooms and challenging behaviour: do the rights of the many outweigh the rights of the few' (Gillett-Swan & Lundy, 2021)

This paper, co-authored by Professor Jenna Gillett-Swan from Queensland University Brisbane, offers a rights-informed approach to consider responses to some of the tensions and conflicts that can arise in schools when there are multiple interests and rights at stake. In the discussion we will explore the current context in Scottish schools and how a rights-based approach, a 3 C’s model, can be used to address the complex and often contentious decision making around any form of marginalisation or exclusionary practice.

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with representation from key stakeholders.
