Statement on Education Reform
This afternoon, Scotland's Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills has given a statement to Parliament on Education Reform.
The statement welcomed the response to the National Discussion on Education and the recommendations of Professor Louise Hayward and James Withers, highlighting the appetite for reform that exists. Jenny Gilruth set out her determination to produce a cohesive package of reform in partnership with learners, educators, parents, and carers.
The Cabinet Secretary reassured Parliament that work to deliver the new national education bodies will continue at pace, strengthened by an extended period of development and engagement.
Gillian Hamilton, Interim Chief Executive of Education Scotland said
“We recognise and support that the priority must be to ensure that the education reform benefits the entire system but more importantly Scotland’s learners in a significant and meaningful way.
We will continue to work closely and flexibly with Scottish Government and other partners throughout the reform process and as always, we are committed to supporting the needs of learners and educators across Scotland. That will remain our priority throughout this period of transition for the education system”
Gillian Hamilton will continue in her role as Interim Chief Executive of Education Scotland until the establishment of the new organisations.
