Crime and law

What is this?

'Crime and law' is a collection of materials that provide an insight into crime and the law in Scotland. Different aspects of crime and the law are covered, including different types of crime and the causes of crime. Materials include video clips in which senior members of the law community provide their views on the issues.

These materials were first published in 2014 and, although some individuals who feature in the video clips have since changed roles, 'Crime and law' still provides a useful set of resources.

Who is this for?

This resource has been developed for practitioners working with learners at broad general education levels 3 and 4 and learners at National 4 and 5. It may also be used to support students working on Modern Studies Added Value Units.

How to use this learning and assessment resource to improve practice

There are number of questions that these materials could address.

  • Can I use this material to contextualise and make links to a topic for my learners?
  • Can I provide personalisation and choice for my learners?
  • Is the material I am providing for my learners contemporary and engaging?
  • Can I make good cross-curricular links with my teaching about Scotland and the world?
