Learning about Gaelic language and culture (LAGAC) is a central feature of learning about Scotland. This helps create informed attitudes to ensure equality and respect to Gaelic as an official language of Scotland, and frequently motivates children to learn Gaelic via Gaelic Learner Education (GLE).

This learning resource may allow settings to use learning in subjects, curricular areas, themed projects, planned interdisciplinary approaches or through elective or enrichment activities to explore the history of the Jacobites and the Gaelic language together.

Children and young people will explore an important period of Scottish history whilst also learning Gaelic language skills. They will learn that Gaelic language and culture is an integral part of Scottish history.

The LAGAC resource was designed to include more representation of people from Black and Minority Ethnic backgrounds. This resource will assist schools in developing their anti-racist curriculum and decolonising their curriculum.

This LAGAC resource can also be used to support Gaelic Learner Education.

• How do we use our understanding of the social, economic and cultural context of the school to inform and shape planning for improvement?
