Workshops for leading professional learning

The following resources are planned workshops for anyone leading professional learning with colleagues in their school or setting and have been informed by the national model of professional learning.

We will continue to add to this suite of resources over time.

Resources

These resources:

  • can be tailored to suit your needs
  • include suggested facilitation guides and timings
  • are planned with a range of activities to increase knowledge, skills and confidence
  • mapped to the relevant Professional Standards

We hope that these resources reduce planning and preparation time, allowing leaders to focus on facilitating impactful professional learning experiences.

There are currently three planned workshops for leading professional learning about coaching including:

These workshops mirror the self-directed Professional Learning Activities (PLAs) that form part of the Coaching In Education open access professional learning resource.

Introduction to Enquiry is a workshop for leading professional learning about enquiry.

This workshop mirrors the three sections of the Enquiry in Education professional learning resource and builds on the plan/do/review cycle:

  • planning a practitioner enquiry (plan)
  • conducting a practitioner enquiry (do)
  • reviewing a practitioner enquiry (review)

There are several planned workshops for leading professional learning about Effective use of Data. These are categorised by intended audience:

There are six workshops available for practitioners.

  1. Establishing the purpose and use of data
  2. Defining and classifying data
  3. Creating effective processes and systems
  4. Interpreting and analysing data
  5. Developing a data informed culture
  6. Using data for improvement

There are six workshops available for middle and senior leaders. They can support leaders in schools and local authorities to develop their own workshops. 

  1. Establishing the purpose and use of data
  2. Defining and classifying data
  3. Creating effective processes and systems
  4. Interpreting and analysing data
  5. Developing a data informed culture
  6. Using data for improvement

Learning to read in the early years is a suite of professional learning resources developed alongside educators across Scotland to provide professional support, specifically in the area of learning to read in the early years.

Three areas of professional knowledge and practice have been identified:

  • building a literacy rich environment through interactions, experiences and spaces
  • developing skills for reading
  • building independent and engaged readers
